Kilim Me Softly

I was going through some old Elle Decoration UK magazines the other day and came upon this amazing story. I love the bright, patterned kilims in a room with white walls and modern accents and the way the shopkeeper/homeowner Sara of of Brandts Indoor in Denmark did a fantastic job of using them to tie her rooms together.

Then I got lost online looking at pictures and trying to find a beautiful kilim of my own. Above is a photo of a colourful carpet from Sophie Demenge's Brooklyn home.

I also discovered that the Nickle Arts Museum at the University of Calgary is home to the largest collections of kilims in the country. The 600 plus rugs were a gift from Dr. Lloyd Erikson, a longtime collector and former University of Alberta anatomy professor. Happily, I'm planning a trip to Calgary soon!

If you can't get close to a kilim, you can always spend some time perusing the vintage carpets at Loom. So beautiful!
